Makhneshan [1] ( pers. ماهنشان , azerb. Mahnişan ) is a small town in the north-west of Iran , in the province of Zanjan . The administrative center of the shahrestan is Makhneshan . As of 2006, the population was 4,495 people [2] .

Geography
The city is located in the western part of Zanjan, in a mountainous area, in the left-bank part of the Rudkhaniye-Kyzyluzen river valley . The absolute height is 1,284 meters above sea level [3] . Makhnashan is located approximately 70 kilometers west of Zanjan , the administrative center of Ostan and 340 kilometers west-northwest (WNW) from Tehran , the country's capital. The nearest airport is Zanjan [3] .
