Dagestan is one of the most subsidized regions of the Russian Federation. In 2011, the subsidy level of Dagestan increased by 3% in annual terms and amounted to 72.8% of the republican budget.
In 2011, the budget of Dagestan was executed on revenues in the amount of 66.3 billion rubles, on expenditures - in the amount of 70.2 billion rubles. The budget deficit is 3.9 billion rubles. 79.7% of the republican budget revenues are gratuitous receipts [5] .

Oil and gas industry
Oil and gas production in Dagestan is carried out by the joint-stock companies Dagnef and Dagestangazprom .
Electricity
Alpine rivers of the region have significant hydroelectric potential, estimated at 55 billion kWh per year. In 2010, generation by existing plants amounted to about 5.1 billion kWh of especially valuable peak electricity per year:
- Chirkey hydropower plant with a capacity of 1000 MW
- Irganayskaya hydroelectric power station - 400 MW
- Miatlinskaya HPP - 220 MW
- Chiryurt hydropower plants with a total capacity of 125 MW
- Gotsatlinskaya hydroelectric power station - 100 MW, 310 million kWh / year
