Berg [1] , Bergheim ( French Bergheim [bɛʁk (h) aim] [2] , also German Bergheim ) is a city and commune in the north-east of France in the Grand Est region [3] (former Alsace - Champagne - Ardennes - Lorraine ), Department of the Upper Rhine , District of Colmar - Riboville , canton of Saint-Marie-o-Min [4] . Until March 2015, the commune was administratively part of the canton of Riboville canton ( Riboville district ).

Geographical position
The commune is located approximately 380 km east of Paris , 55 km southwest of Strasbourg , 14 km north of Colmar [5] . Bergem is located in a valley between the hills, in a region rich in vineyards, just west of the N83 / A35 Strasbourg-Colmar highway. The Bergenbach River, the left tributary of the Ile River, flows through Bergem. The INSEE code is 68028.
The area of the commune is 19.16 km², the population is 1837 people [6] [7] (2006) with an upward trend: 1941 people [8] (2012), the population density is 101.3 people / km².

Economics
In 2007, among 1221 people of working age (15-64 years old), 927 were economically active , 294 were inactive (activity indicator - 75.9%, in 1999 it was 75.3%). Of the 927 active, 861 people worked (478 men and 383 women), 66 were unemployed (24 men and 42 women). Among 294 inactive 81 people were pupils or students, 142 - pensioners, 71 were inactive for other reasons [11] .

- The fortress wall (XIV-XV century) with a tower-gate (Upper Gate), built in the XIV century and rebuilt in the XVI century. The Upper Gate has been a cultural heritage site since March 8, 1948. [12]
