The world championship in modern pentathlon is held in Moscow for the fourth time after 1961, 1974 and 2004.
Initially, the 2011 World Modern Pentathlon Championship was to be held in Egypt, but due to the unstable political situation, the International Federation of Modern Pentathlon decided to postpone the championship. March 25, 2011 the Russian "application" won.
For the first time in the history of world modern pentathlon, all disciplines took place under the roof of one sports complex, and the competition grounds were at a distance very close to each other. In addition, this championship was held according to updated rules, using a new type of weapon and laser targets [1] . Having gathered all the species in one complex, the organizers, among other things, solved the problem of endless tedious transfers between objects, from which participants of other competitions often suffer.
The Russian women's team took fourth place in the team event with two medals - one silver and one bronze. Ukrainians excelled (2-0-1).

Personal and team championships
* Fencing. Swimming. After fencing and swimming, where the Russians as a whole took their lead, Evdokia Grechishnikova was 4th, Polina Struchkova - 7th, and Ekaterina Khuraskina - 13th. Considering that the situation with the Olympic licenses of the women's team is worse than that of men, this was encouraging.
* Horseback riding. Jumping. But here the case intervened, which in a show jumping brought Struchkova and Khuraskin to Zazyv and Orenthea. In the pentathlon, as is known, during the draw, each four-legged ally goes to two athletes, and the observations of the girlfriends of the Russians who spoke earlier about horse misfortune did not inspire optimism. The horse, which, under the saddle of the Belarusian Anastasia Prokopenko, refused to take obstacles six times on the first attempt, was eventually replaced, but the new Governor was no better, and Polina could not finish the route, losing 1000 points. More than once the horse of Khuraskina went into denial. As a result, both Russians before the last look - the "combine" - rolled back into the fourth dozen.
Already after Grechishnikov’s competition, which, incidentally, dealt with her horse and got off with only 20 penalty points, she explained that the animals could react to unusual conditions for a show jumping - a huge indoor area, a large number of spotlights, and the noise of the stands. But the tetrapods did not have a voice in the organizing committee of the World Cup, and the athletes liked the competition for the first time in history, hosting the entire pentathlon program, extremely.
* Combine (Running + Shooting). Grechishnikova went third at the start of the run, followed by Hungarian Charlotte Kovacs and Frenchwoman Elodie Clovel. However, the entire top ten started at intervals of less than a minute, so there was no question of simply maintaining an advantage over other people who wanted to be in the top three.
Victoria Tereshchuk in front of the “combine” closed the top ten, but she dealt with this very handicap as quickly as if only she had been running in this company, and everyone else was walking. Kovach rested the longest, but at the last kilometer they "ate" her too. True, there’s nothing special to be surprised at. Tereshchuk, thanks to his outstanding running qualities, even in the company of recognized "combiners" (that is, masters of the final pentathlon discipline) stands apart. A few years ago, this girl won the Ukrainian championship ... in athletics at a distance of 800 m, and after the Beijing Games she even seriously considered the option of changing the modern pentathlon to another, more commercially attractive sport.
Evdokia Grechishnikova set a personal record in the “harvester” and took 4th place. The Russian women's team for the first time since 2007 rose to the podium in the team championship, ahead of the British in the fight for bronze by 40 points.
Russians Yulia Kolegova and Ekaterina Khuraskina took 21st and 30th places respectively, and Polina Struchkova , unable to cope with horse riding, did not start in the “harvester” [2] .
Relay
The Russian relay team of Donata Rimshait, Polina Struchkova and Ekaterina Khuraskina could not defend the title won last year in Chengdu, China. World Champions 2010 performed below their capabilities in the first form - fencing, after which they were not able to make up for losses in swimming and jumping. Unlucky with the horses - I even had to change one of the horses, which was excessively “distinguished” in the first race. Khuraskina never found a common language with the horse, and as a result, in her account in this form 100 of the total 180 penalty points. During the “harvester”, the wards of Alexei Khaplanov at some point managed to get close to the top three, but Struchkova did not have enough strength until the end of the race. As a result - 9th place.
Unlike ours, in the second half of the “harvester” Germans and Ukrainians, who were pulled to bronze by the main character of the 2011 World Cup Victoria Tereshchuk, showed an impressive breakthrough. The victory went to the Hungarians - Sharolta Kovacs, speaking at the first stage, easily left her rivals, who started almost at the same time, creating a more than comfortable gap.

Mixed Relay
In the Russian national team, the male part of the work was entrusted to the 2011 world champion Sergey Karjakin. As early as Saturday, coaches were inclined to put Andrei Moiseyev or Alexander Lesun, but after winning the double in a personal tournament, they decided to save them for the men's relay. In addition, this decision could pursue another goal - to psychologically support Sergei after a Sunday failure in the individual tournament. The female part of the team was expected to be Evdokia Grechishnikova. Even after the finals of the individual competitions, it became known that the athlete performs at the level of personal records with a gall bladder that has become clogged, and on Monday, her back, which was injured when falling from a horse, got sick already on fencing.
According to the estimates of the national team coaches, Grechishnikova and Karjakin did everything possible. The Ukrainians won, whose mentors decided to play their maximum trump card by the name of Victoria Tereshchuk to the maximum. At the moment, this athlete is ready so that she has no rivals in the “harvester”. Dmitry Kirpulyansky, partner Tereshchuk, had no choice but to fail in shooting, and he overfulfilled the task, having worked “to zero”. After the award, both enjoyed joking about the “strong” half of their team.
The Russians, in turn, did not allow anyone to encroach on their silver, although the Lithuanians Laura Asadauskaite and Justinas Kinderis honestly tried to do this.
