The attack in Beirut - was committed on October 19, 2012 and directed against Brigadier General Visam al-Hassan , head of the intelligence service of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces . The explosion of a car filled with explosives killed 8 people, including al-Hassan, more than a hundred were injured, many buildings suffered significant damage, and dozens of cars were damaged. The attack became the largest in Beirut in the last 4 years. Observers attribute this terrorist act to the civil war in neighboring Syria , which has been going on for about a year and a half.
