Opitandra ( lat. Opithandra ) is a genus of the Gesneriaceae family ( lat. Gesneriaceae ), which includes about 10 species of perennial terrestrial rhizome grasses . It is used in decorative floriculture.

Name Etymology

The name of the genus comes from the Greek. όπιθη "opithē" - behind, and Greek. ανηρ, ανδρος "anēr, andros" - a man, indicating that the rear pair of stamens is fertile .

Botanical Description

Perennial ground rhizome stemless herbs . Corolla pink or purple, inside with a rare pubescence in the form of stripes or glandular hairs; the tube is cylindrical or funnel-shaped, can be slightly protruded in the abaxial part, the length is 1.5-4 times longer than the limb; limb lobes equal or limb distinctly or obscurely bilobate. the adaxial lip is 2-lobed, the abaxial lip is 3-lobed. fertile stamens 2, equal in length to the corolla, grown to the adaxial side of the corolla tube near the middle, less often near the basal part of the corolla. Staminodynia - 1-3 or absent; anthers are sometimes free, open along longitudinal grooves. Nectar ring or cupped. Ovary upper, cylindrical, gradually tapering into a column, stigma 1, capitate, whole or 2 whole or 2-lobed. Habitat and habitat
