Selected Bibliography

  • "The Naked Garden" (1967, film version "Through nine bridges"),
  • The Castle (1970),
  • The Thief (play, 1973),
  • The Keymaster (1978),
  • “Stone to stone” (1984) is one of the most interesting works of modern Polish prose. The novel is distinguished by a rare combination of philosophical understanding of the worldview of the peasant-farmer with a broad epic display of folk life, embodied in the fate of a hero who survived the tragic events of the Second World War, the tough years of the struggle with the occupier and the difficult first years of the new life in the village. Filmed in 1995.
  • Tree (1989),
  • Horizon (1996, in 1997 awarded the Nika Prize),
  • “Requiem for a Mistress” (2000)
  • “A treatise on peeling bean” (2006, in 2007 awarded the “Nika” prize, the literary prize of Gdynia, the prize of the TV channel “Kultura”, the prize of the monthly “Odra”) [1] , etc.,
  • “The Last Distribution” (2013) is a “complete” work that encompasses the entire human life, touching the very secret of being. Being an incentive for reflection, the novel does not teach, does not moralize, and does not evaluate. Shows life with its good and bad sides. This is a philosophical novel, the measure and theme of which is man and the human duty between chance and necessity. The book is beautifully structured, calls for its repeated reading and reading into it - each time allowing you to discover its new dimensions and perspectives. The element of the story being told captivates the reader so much that he becomes one with it and surrenders to the will of its course.
  • Needle Eye (2018, presentation at Znak Publishing House - October 17) - touching thoughts on human destiny, memory and history, the mystery of intimate relationships, and, above all, on the secret meeting of youth and old age. The novel, like in a mirror, reflects a piece of Polish history with everything that is dramatic, painful, unsaid and unspoken in it. First of all, however, this is a thing about how the past tense leaves a trace in the human knowledge of oneself and the world around us. Beautiful, deep literature, in which the insight of observations and a peculiar tenderness towards a person are intertwined with a symbolic dimension.

A number of Myslivsky’s works were filmed, in particular, films were made:

  • 1979 - Keyman,
  • 1980 - The Road (based on the novel "Stone to Stone"),
  • 1980 - The Palace (based on the novel "Castle"),
  • 1995 - Stone to stone (new adaptation of the novel).

Notes

  1. ↑ The chairman of the jury, professor Malgozhata Shpakovskaya, justifying the decision to award NIKE to Weslaw Myslivsky, said that this award is a testament to respect for the tremendous creative courage with which the author of the Bean Peeling Treatise raises a basic existential theme, finding for her a surprisingly simple and ascetic form.
