Diocese of Florida ( lat. Dioecesis Floridensis ) - Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church with its center in the city of Florida , Uruguay . The Diocese of Florida extends its jurisdiction to the Florida and Durasno departments. The Diocese of Florida enters the Metropolis of Montevideo . The Cathedral of the Diocese of Florida is the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the city of Florida.

History

On April 14, 1897, the Holy See established the Melo Diocese, isolating it from the archdiocese of Montevideo.

On August 11, 1931, Pope Pius XI issued the bull "Quo salubrius" , which he transferred the department of the Melo Diocese to the city of Florida and renamed the Melo Diocese to the Melo and Florida Diocese.

On November 15, 1955, Pope Pius XII issued a bull , Accepta arcano , which divided the diocese of Melo and Florida into two dioceses of Melo and Florida.

On October 22, 1960, the Florida Diocese transferred part of its territory for the erection of the new Diocese of Tacuarembo .
