In 1977, the USSR Council of Ministers decided to erect a monument to Suvorov in Moscow. To the 250th anniversary of the commander in 1980, a competition was held for the best project, which was won by sculptor Komov and architect Nesterov . The grand opening of the monument took place on February 17, 1982.
The authors of the sculpture in their project departed from the heroic-epic image of the “great commander”, transmitted by the famous monument to Suvorov by Kozlovsky in St. Petersburg . Komov stopped at a realistic transfer of the image of Suvorov, starting from the memories of his contemporaries about the field marshal . Suvorov’s wildlife was conveyed quite accurately. Komov also drew attention to small details: his sculpture “wears” only one order of St. Anne , the only one worn by the commander in real life.
The Suvorov Monument is located in Moscow on Suvorov Square near the Theater of the Russian Army , where at the time of Suvorov there was an invalid house for military veterans.
