Biography
Carlos Tovar began playing football in the Uaral teams, then played for Lima San Carlos College, but made his adult debut in 1932 as part of Universitario, where he played for the rest of his career until 1943. During this time, he became the champion of Peru three times. From 1935 to 1939 he played for the national team.
In 1935, Carlos helped the team of Peru to take third place in the championship of South America. He played in two of the three matches of the Peruvians, including against the national team of Paraguay (1: 0) [1] .
The following year, the goods went to Germany for the Summer Olympic Games as part of the Peruvian team. The Peruvian team was the only representative of South America in the tournament and performed very spectacularly. After winning the first round over the Finnish national team (7: 3), the Peruvians met in the quarter finals with the Austrian “wundertim” . The Austrians, the semi-finalists of the 1934 World Cup, won 2-0 after the first half, but the Peruvians equalized and scored 2 more goals in the added time. In the last minute of overtime, when it was obvious that Austria could not win, Peruvian fans ran out onto the field. Austria filed a protest and FIFA made a monstrous injustice decision - to replay the match. The Peruvian delegation left the tournament in protest, and the Austrians, having beaten the relatively modest national team of Poland in the semifinals, won the silver medal of the tournament. Commodity played both matches in the tournament [2] .
In 1937, Carlos participated in the championship of South America, which was extremely unsuccessful for Peru - the last, sixth place. In 1939, Carlos Tovar became the champion of South America. He played without substitution all 4 matches in the home championship [3] , which was the last tournament for Carlos in the national team.
Carlos Tovar died on June 15, 2006, at the age of 92.
