Background
After the tragic death of General Ziya-ul-Haq in a plane crash, democratic elections were held in Pakistan for the first time in 10 years. They won the party of the PNP , and Benazir Bhutto became the Prime Minister of the country. However, many Pakistani military men supported the policy of radical Islamization of General Zia and were categorically against the democratic transformations in the country.
Conspiracy
In September 1995, 36 army officers (all Sunnis ) were arrested during the preparations for the conspiracy. The conspirators' plans included the destruction of the country's political and military elite, and the implementation of radical Islamic reforms. Major General Zahirul Islam Abbashi (who headed this conspiracy) received money from an unknown source, he brought weapons for the conspirators from Darra-Adam-Khel .
Consequences
Major General Abbashi hid from the Pakistani authorities and now leads the radical Islamic movement Azmat-e-lslam, works closely with Al Qaeda . According to him, he is actively recruiting supporters among conscripts of the armed forces of Pakistan .
