This picture is one of those that was written in the beginning and in the middle of the 1660s, where the artist moved away from emphyse to axonometry and geometric order. He switched to simpler forms, using only one figure and emphasizing the use of light.
"A Young Woman with a Jug of Water" was bought by Henry Gourdon Marquand in 1887 at the Paris Gallery for $ 800. When Marquand brought a picture in the United States , it became the first work of Jan Vermeer, who visited America. Marquand donated the masterpiece along with others in his collection to the Metropolitan Museum in New York .
