Biography

Leonty Yakovlevich Tupitsyn was born in 1895 [1] in the repair of the Soplinsky Vyatka province [K 1] in a peasant family. He graduated from two classes of the parish school.

Before the start of World War I, he worked as a farm laborer , in 1914 he was mobilized into the Russian army, and participated in the war. In 1918, he volunteered for the Red Army , fought in the Civil War on the Southern and Eastern Fronts. Was injured. After the war he served as one of the military units of the Red Army in Omsk , in 1922 he was demobilized.

In the 1920s, he worked in the Oktyabr agricultural cooperative in the village of Tulichan, Shabalinsky District, Kirov Region, in the 1930s he became a team leader on the collective farm , and then its chairman.

In April 1942, the Orichev military commissariat was called up for military service. In the army since January 1943. He was wounded twice during the year.

In January 1944, L. Ya. Tupitsyn was a shooter of the 268th Infantry Division, which was located on the southern approaches to Leningrad , holding positions along the Neva River north of its bend. On January 21, 1944, during the Leningrad-Novgorod operation , the division went on the offensive at Mgu and participated in the capture of the city on the same day, after which, turning south-west, it launched an offensive in the direction of Ulyanovka . The enemy withdrawn his troops from the Mginsky ledge and offered fierce resistance, holding the corridor to exit. On January 24, 1944, the enemy continued to hold Ulyanovka and at the moment when the regiment’s units lay under machine-gun fire, Private Tupitsyn made his way to the machine-gun point and covered the loophole of the machine-gun with his body. He was posthumously presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union , but the award did not take place.

He was buried in Ulyanovka .

Rewards

Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 695 of May 6, 1994 for courage and heroism shown in the fight against Nazi invaders in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, rank-and-file Tupitsyn Leonty Yakovlevich was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation posthumously.
