Biography
He was born on March 7, 1925 in a peasant family in the village of Chutanovka [1] of Kirsanovsky district of the Tambov province [2] (according to other sources - in the village of Kezmenka of the Chutanovsky village council of Kirsanovsky district [3] ). He graduated from the seven-year school in 1939; then he worked on the collective farm and as a stoker at the Tambov railway depot.
He was called up to the Red Army on January 1, 1943 by the Kirsanov District Military Commissariat. On the front since January 26, 1944. The scout of the foot reconnaissance platoon of the 681st rifle regiment (133rd rifle division, 40th army). In January 1944, near the village of Bashtechki, Kiev region, the reconnaissance group seized and delivered the “language” and also took part in repelling the enemy’s counterattacks, for which he was awarded the medal “For Courage” on February 17, 1944 [4] .
For brave actions in battles on August 23–24, 1944, in the area of the Romanian city of Bacau , during which private Konev captured two “tongues” and eight enemy soldiers in hand-to-hand fighting, on September 5, 1944 he was awarded the Order of Glory of the III degree [5] .
On the night of September 30 to October 1, 1944, during a reconnaissance attack, he discovered the unloading of an enemy military echelon at the station of the city of Regin , promptly reported this to the location of the unit. As a result of the artillery raid, 15 wagons with ammunition and equipment were destroyed, and the loss of enemy personnel amounted to 150 people. In addition, being in reconnaissance near the settlement of Bistrita , Konev's group eliminated the enemy’s machine-gun nest, destroying three and capturing two people. For these actions, Vasily Konev was presented to the Order of the Red Banner [6] . On November 6, 1944, when crossing the Tisza river in the Hungarian settlement, Tisalek was the first to reach the enemy shore with his capture group using improvised means, captured a foothold and, having repulsed four counterattacks, held him until the main forces approached. For these actions, the commander of the 681st rifle regiment, P. S. Bilayonov, was presented to the Order of Lenin [7] . However, these petitions were not satisfied, and Vasily Konev received lower awards for his feats - the Order of Glory of the II degree and the Order of the Patriotic War of the II degree .
On January 12, 1945, in a battle near the village of Beretka (Slovakia), secretly crept up to the enemy's machine-gun nest and destroyed it with grenades, which made it possible to break the enemy resistance and capture an important height. On January 14, being lightly wounded in a battle near the village of Grkach, he did not leave the battlefield, but continued to attack in the front ranks and destroyed 12 enemy soldiers. For these actions, the commander of the regiment, P. S. Bilonov, was presented to the Order of Glory, I degree [8] , but was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, I degree.
On May 5, 1945, Senior Sergeant Konev at the head of the capture group penetrated the enemy’s location in the area of the Czech city of Olomouc . When the reconnaissance group departed, 15 enemy servicemen were destroyed, a pillbox was blown up, and a car was burned. During this fight, Vasily Konev received several injuries, including serious ones, and was taken to a field hospital. For brave actions in this battle, on May 15, 1946, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the I degree . This award was received by Vasily Egorovich Konev 20 years after the end of the Great Patriotic War in the city of Tiraspol , where he worked as a foreman at furniture factory No. 5; also was awarded a two-room apartment. He died on February 6, 1988. He was buried in the cemetery "Far" of the city of Tiraspol .
The post office of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika in its series “Famous countrymen” plans to issue a postage stamp dedicated to Vasily Konev [9] .
