Biography

Nazir hell Durgeli was born in the Kumyk village of Dorgeli, Kumyk by nationality, his father Hajji Nika Muhammad, son of Kurban Al-Durheli Altuni (died 1344/1925), was an educated person. According to Nazir, his father was “a scholar, a reader of the Quran, always did good, met good people, went to Hajj, was a religious person, hospitable, absolutely honest and honest.” Possessing a calligraphic handwriting, Nika Muhammad prepared for the lithographed edition a manuscript of the work of Ilyas al-Tsudahari “Kifayat al-murid fi tariq al-tavhid” in Kumyk language. He died in 1344/25. In addition to Nazir, he had three more children: Abu Sa'id (born 1311/1894), Khubiyat (born 1316/1898) and Bagautdin (died 1338 / 1919-20). In 1336/1917 Nazir married Cost, the daughter of Ata from Durgel. According to a family chronicle compiled by Nazir ad-Durgeli and discovered by G.M.R. Orazayev in 1989, Nazir received his primary education, first in his native village from his father and from local experts in the Koran and the Arabic language, later from the famous Alim in the villages of Paraul , Nizhnyaya Kazanische , Gubden . Among his teachers was Abusufyan Akayev , as well as Sheikh Gazanuva from Gubden. Later he moved with his family to the ancient village of Tarki . They collected a large Islamic library of a thousand volumes of rare books. Among them are all the numbers of a Muslim newspaper published from 1913–1918 by “ Dzharidat Dagistan ” edited by Badavi Saidov , as well as all the articles of the famous Islamic reformer (muslich) Ali al Gumuki ( Ali Kayayeva ) [1] . The main work of Nazir Magomedgadzhiyev is a dictionary of biographies of Muslim scholars of the 10th — 20th centuries “The wits of minds in the biographies of Dagestan scholars ” (“ Nuzkhat al-azhan fi tarajim ulama Dagistan” ). For a long time the publication of this work was not possible because of the Soviet anti-religious attitudes. In this dictionary, he collected about 230 scientists of Arabs , Azerbaijanis , Avars , Dargins , Kumyks , Laks , Lezgins , Chechens, and others. The book tells about their biographies and their writings, many of which are now lost forever. The dictionary reflects a wide range of disciplines from Islamic law and theology, Sufi ethics to astronomy, medicine, Islamic poetry, logic, etc. This work is of great encyclopedic significance in its scale and completeness of information from a rich source base. Nazir used in his work a number of information about Dagestan scholars from the works of the 12th century Central Asian historian Abu Sa'd al-Sam'ani , 13th century Arab encyclopaedist Yakut al-Hamawi , 14th century traveler Ibn Battuta and many others.

However, the bulk of the information Nazir collected at home in Dagestan , its sources are the works of Dagestanian scholars and scholars known throughout the Islamic world [2] .
