Biography
Gennady Kichkaylo was born on April 25, 1972 in Leningrad . In 1996, he graduated from the St. Petersburg Higher Military Command School of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. He served as platoon commander, deputy company commander for work with personnel. He participated in the battles in the territory of Dagestan and Chechnya [1] .
March 12, 2000 during the battles for the village of Komsomolskoye Kichkaylo commanded a company. Assessing the situation, he intensified the fire in the center of the defense and surrounded the house with two platoons where the militants were seated. Having opened fire, the company destroyed fifteen separatists and captured trophies. On March 14, a company was attacked by a large group of militants. Kichkaylo ordered his subordinates to withdraw, and he himself remained with several soldiers to cover the withdrawal. Kichkaylo’s actions allowed to successfully detain the enemy. When retreating to his positions, he was seriously wounded by fragments of a grenade launcher. The militants tried to capture Kichkaylo, but he blew himself up with a grenade along with them. He was buried at the city (Babigonsky) cemetery in Peterhof.
By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of September 9, 2000, senior lieutenant Gennady Kichkaylo was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Russian Federation [1] .
