Biography
Yuri Vornovskaya was born on October 3, 1979 in the village of Sheino, Korochansky district, Belgorod region . He graduated from high school, then the Shebekino industrial and economic college in the city of Shebekino . In 1998, Vornovskaya was called up for service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He served in the 56th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment of the North Caucasus Military District in the city of Kamyshin, Volgograd Region . He participated in the second Chechen war [1] .
On March 2, 2000, in the area of the village of Kharsenoy, Shatoi district of Chechnya, Vornovskaya, being part of an intelligence group, was ambushed by Chechen separatists. Together with two fighters, he remained to cover the withdrawal of the group. When she retreated to a sufficient distance, Vornovskaya ordered the soldiers who were with him to leave, and covered their departure already, but this did not succeed, since by that time they were already surrounded. Both soldiers died. Vornovsky received two wounds, but continued to fire on the enemy, and when the cartridges ran out, he entered into hand-to-hand combat. In total, he killed 11 militants. Died in this battle. He was buried in his native village [1] .
By decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1067 of June 7, 2000 for "courage and heroism shown in the performance of military duty in the North Caucasus region", Junior Sergeant Yuri Vornovsky was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Russian Federation [1] .
