Military operation in Gudermes
In the early morning of December 14, 1995, at the entrance to the city of Gudermes, a group of separatists of 30-40 people seized the district hospital . After 40 minutes, the white-robed militants began to occupy houses near the city commandant's office and equip their firing positions. As it later became known, a total of about six hundred supporters of Dudayev secretly entered the city. A fierce battle began around the commandant's office, which was located in the pedagogical school building. Brovkovich in the group of nine people kept the defense on the roof of the building. This was his first open battle. The commander of the group, senior police lieutenant Vilorius Buslovsky sent Brovkovich to organize a firing point at the corner of the roof of the training building. Despite the massive enemy fire, Brovkovich made his way to the indicated place and within three hours successfully led the target designation of the detachment and the observation of the approaches to the building. By 8 o'clock in the morning Brovkovich was on the defensive on the first floor of the commandant’s office. At that time, four armored personnel carriers and one Ural truck with ammunition of a brigade of internal troops broke through to the school. Brovkovich, together with the surviving fighters, began to transfer mortars to the shelter. At this time he was seriously wounded in the chest. The first aid was rendered to him by the doctors of the Vologda riot police, then for nineteen hours they still fought for his life, but without success. He was buried in Kaliningrad at the Old City Cemetery. [1] .
