Valery Valentinovich Gorobets ( April 29, 1967 , Odessa , USSR - January 1, 1995 , Grozny , Chechnya ) - senior lieutenant of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation , participant in the first Chechen war , Hero of the Russian Federation ( 1996 ).

Biography
Valery Gorobets was born on April 29, 1967 in Odessa in the family of a major of the Soviet army , the USSR Armed Forces . From 1984 to 1988, he studied at the Odessa Frunze Higher Artillery Command School , after which he served in the artillery units of the North Caucasus Military District . By December 1994, Senior Lieutenant Valery Gorobets commanded an artillery platoon of the 33rd motorized rifle regiment, the 20th guards motorized rifle division, and the 8th guards army corps [1] .
He participated in battles near the village of Komsomolskoye in December 1994 and was wounded there, but remained in the ranks. During the storming of Grozny on January 1, 1995 , leading two mortar calculations , Gorobets remained to cover the waste of the motorized rifle division . Holding the street along which the separatists tried to pass, he did not allow them to advance. When almost all the crewmen died, Gorobets continued to fight alone for several hours in complete surroundings . Died in this battle [1] .
By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 2, 1996, for "courage and heroism shown in the performance of a special task," Senior Lieutenant Valery Gorobets was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Russian Federation [1] .
