Biography

The early years

She was born on August 17, 1978 [1] in the family of a Serb Dragan (police officer by profession) [2] and Slovena Slovenia. She spent her childhood in Fontana (New Belgrade district). At an early age, dropped out of school, taking up a musical career.

Musical career

In the mid-1990s, Elena began performing at various concerts, becoming famous after the release of her first turbo-folk album “Ogledalce” in 1995. In Serbia and Montenegro, more than 100 thousand of this album was sold. She later switched to pop music. Several of her songs took first place in Serbian radio charts, the lyrics were written by Marina Tutsakovich. In total, Elena recorded nine albums, which were widely sold in the Balkans. The most famous songs of Elena were: Ženite se momci, Ko ovu dramu režira, Zovem se Jelena, Gili, gili, Ludača, Nije ona, nego ja, Još te volim, Manijak ”,“ Samo za tvoje oči ”,“ Moj dragi ”,“ Slatka mala ”,“ Upravo ostavljena ”,“ Ide maca oko tebe ”,“ Nisi u pravu ”,“ Casino ”,“ Tihi ubica ”,“ Testament ” , “Jedna noć i kajanje”, “Baš je dobro biti ja”, “Ko ti to baje”, “ Insomnija ”, “ Muškarac koji mrzi žene ” and “ Nova religija (Plava Šeherezada) ”.

Elena’s first single “Insomnia” was downloaded about one and a half million times from her official site the day before the official premiere in the final episode of the Big Brother reality show. This song is a cover version of the song “Dance Pe Chance” from the movie God created this couple. . On YouTube, the video clip gained 4 million views in two weeks, reaching the third place in the ranking of the most popular videos [3] . The second single “Muškarac koji mrzi žene” was released on January 4, 2011 , and the third single “Nova religija (Plava Šeherezada)” on June 26, 2011 . Since 2007, Elena’s producer is Zoran Birtasevich. The single “Muškarac koji mrzi žene” is plagiarized to the song of the South Korean boy band SHINee Lucifer (2010)

Now Karleusha is working on a new album, the release of which is planned to be released in 2019, this album will include the song “Ostavljam te”, with the participation of the Bulgarian singer Azis [4] .

Music Performance

In 2006, Karleusha released a collection of clothes under the brand name JK Wear [5] , which included a variety of dresses. In 2010, she took part in the show "Big Brother" as a guest star [6] , and soon begins to lead her own column in the newspaper Kurir .

In the same year, rumors appeared that Karleush was going to start a political career [7] [8] and would run for the People’s Assembly from the Democratic Party of Serbia [8] . However, ironically, in the newspaper Kurir, Elena spoke very critically and harshly at the then president Boris Tadic , politicians Chedomir Jovanovic and Ivica Dacic , singers Lepa Brena and Svetlana Razhnatovich [9] . In November 2010, Elena stopped leading the column, according to her, fearing for her own life [10] [11] . Moreover, she was repeatedly criticized for such an attempt to attract attention [12] .

Karleusha supports the LGBT movement in Serbia and is often recognized as a gay icon [13] : the American magazine W mentioned similar status in November 2013. Repeatedly, the yellow press called Karleusha a “transvestite” and “prostitute”: once in 1997 at the Milovan’s Minimax talk show Ilica Minimaksovizija called Zhelko Razhnatovich himself to Karleusha and beat up Minimax [14] .
