Biography
Oleg Varlakov was born on June 25, 1972 in the city of Yangiyul, Tashkent region, Uzbek SSR . He graduated from high school, then in 1993 - the Vladikavkaz Higher Military Command School of Internal Troops. He commanded a platoon in Uzbekistan . In 1994, he resigned from service in Uzbekistan and moved to Yekaterinburg , where he got a job in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He was a district police inspector, then commanded a platoon , was deputy commander of a OMON company of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Sverdlovsk Region . Three times he went on special business trips to Chechnya [1] .
On March 6, 1996, gangs intensified in Grozny, which besieged almost all roadblocks. The 13th checkpoint caused fire on itself, being able to drive away the enemy. On the morning of March 7 , breaking through a brick wall, an infantry fighting vehicle with a group of policemen from this checkpoint, where the gun did not work and the tower did not turn, managed to break out of the siege. However, two riot policemen and three soldiers who were supposed to sit astride the armor disappeared. As it turned out later, the BMP driver took for a conditional signal for departure (a butt strike on the armor) a blow to the armor of a fragment of a shell, and left without them. To lead the raid, the purpose of which was to save the remaining, the senior lieutenant of militia Oleg Varlakov volunteered. Taking nine fighters with him in two vehicles - BMP and BRDM - he went on a raid. As soon as the cars were in a narrow street, the militants fired at them from several grenade launchers . The last thing Varlakov managed to say on the radio: “Storm”, do you hear me, “Storm”? .. The armor is knocked out. The guys were injured, I too ... "A group of riot police beat off to the last, dying in full force. On March 9, their mutilated bodies were found and taken out. The riot police and soldiers to rescue which Varlakov’s group went to rescue were found alive. Varlakov was buried in Pyatigorsk [1] .
By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of September 6, 1996, senior police lieutenant Oleg Varlakov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Russian Federation . He was also awarded the medal "For Courage" [1] .
