Dynamo players Dmitry Cheryshev , Yuri Kovtun and Oleg Teryokhin , played in this Cup for Sokol , as well as those played for CSKA - Sergey Kolotovkin , Alexander Grishin , Vladimir Semenov, could not take part in the match. In the course of the meeting, Muscovites were left without Ravil Sabitov , who was injured. Dynamo head coach Konstantin Beskov had to include five double players in the application for the match: Mikhail Zharinov and Sergey Bogomolov , who had never previously played as a base, as well as Ruslan Ishkinin , Andrei Dyomkin and Igor Nekrasov . “Rotor” could not help Valery Yesipov , who received a red card in the semifinals.

The main time of the match ended in a goalless draw. The main events of the match happened in the end of extra time. Muscovites had to make a forced replacement, as Andrei Kobelev was injured and could not continue the match, and then, in the 115th minute, the referee Igor Siner sent a 11-meter free kick into the goal of Dynamo. The ball after being hit by Oleg Veretennikov from the penalty spot hit the post. At the 116th minute of the match for the second yellow card, Sergei Podpaly was removed from the field. The penalty shoot-out, in which 16 shots were delivered, became the longest in the finals of the Cup of Russia. The first 14 hits turned out to be accurate, and the goalkeeper Igor Korniyets hit the goalkeeper. The decisive blow Dynamo Sergei Shulgin was accurate. So Moscow Dynamo won the Russian Cup for the first time.

By decision of the administration of the Luzhniki Stadium , the RFU and the finalist clubs, the entire fee for the tickets sold was transferred to help victims of the Sakhalin earthquake . [one]
