Story
The plot revolves around Kirby , a resident of Dreamland. The rainbow bridges connecting the seven Rainbow Islands were destroyed by the power of evil called Dark Matter, which controls King DiDi and aims to conquer the Dream Land. Kirby decides to defeat Dark Matter, in the company of three animal friends. After traveling across seven islands, Kirby encounters the obsessed King Dee Dee and defeats him.
If a player has collected all seven Rainbow Drops, they will be transformed into a Rainbow Sword, able to expel Dark Matter from the body of the defeated DiDiDi. Exploring mystical objects, Kirby collides in Dark Matter in the final battle. He defeats her, and with the help of a sword forms a rainbow that returns peace and tranquility to the Land of Dreams.
Gameplay
Kirby's Dream Land 2 , like previous games about Kirby, is a platformer . Kirby can walk, swim and fly through the levels, using the abilities of enemies to achieve the goal at the end of the level. Nevertheless, now on the character's path lie various obstacles - from pits to enemies. If Kirby touches an enemy or an obstacle, he loses a small part of his health (only 6 parts).
Kirby’s main abilities include running, jumping, flying, swimming, and breathing in air (up button), when you press the jump button, Kirby will fly into the air and can reach any height (unless the obstacle allows you to reach the height ) At any time, when Kirby breathes air, he can breathe it out when landing on the ground, or the player can do it on his own. Exhausted air can be used to damage enemies and destroy blocks.
Inhaling objects, enemies, and food becomes Kirby's primary ability. To begin inhalation, the player must hold down the B key. Kirby can inhale endlessly, and if the enemy is in the right range, the hero will eat it. If Kirby ate food, then he will automatically restore health if he has damage. When Kirby inhales an enemy or an object, he remains in his mouth. At this moment, the hero can shoot them like a star (damages everything in its path). Swallowing certain enemies, Kirby gains abilities, such as "Ice Breath" or the ability to turn into stone.
Kirby's Dream Land 2 represents three allies helping him on his adventure: Rick the Hamster , allowing Kirby to ride on his back, run faster and not slip on ice. Owl Coo the Owl , who can carry Kirby and overcome severe storms, also allows Kirby to breathe air during the flight. Kine the Ocean Sunfish , which can put Kirby in her mouth and easily swim in water even against the tide (but it does not work well on land), the protagonist can breathe under water. Every time Kirby helps an animal, its initial ability changes. So, if Kirby has the ability "Spark" ( Rus. Spark ), then while riding on Rick, his ability is converted to "Beam" ( Rus. Ray ). At the same time, Ku allows you to attack enemies with lightning, and Kayn - to intercept enemy shells.
Presentation
Like Kirby's Dream Land , Kirby's Dream Land 2 uses 2D mechanics and visual shades of gray. However, when playing on Game Boy Color, there is a special distinction with Kirby's animal friends and the graphics are drawn in a limited color. For example, each stage has a theme color. So, the Grass Country level is in yellow, the Big Forest is green. The world map uses more colors. Each "earth" is painted in its corresponding color, and the sky is blue with white clouds. In addition, the level bar uses its own color scheme. In addition, the final sequence has a unique color, allowing you to use many other colors, such as on the Game Boy Color - rainbow. Special sound effects are added using the Nintendo sound chip. On the game launch screen - the sound of applause, on the menu screen - gusts of wind, at the final stage - the sound of thunder.
Unlike the original Kirby's Dream Land , the music for Kirby's Dream Land 2 was written by Hirokazu Ando and Tadashi Ikegami - composers of the HAL Laboratory
Criticism

In addition, Kirby's Dream Land 2 is known as one of the most difficult to complete (100%) games in the Kirby series [4] .
In 2012, GamesRadar ranked Kirby's Dream Land 2 at number 7 on the list of “Best Games in the Kirby Series” [5] and number 5 on the list of “Best Games for the Game Boy of All Time” [6] .
