Origin
The clan comes, according to the apocryphal information of the genealogy of the legend, from the duma nobleman Mikhail Ivanovich Olsufiev , the serpent landowner, for participating in the defeat of Devlet Giray , the Crimean khan (1572), who received the village of Lipitsa with villages in Serpukhov county . According to the documents, the genus can be traced from the beginning of the XVII century.
Rod rose in the time of Peter. Matvey Olsufyev was a confidant of Catherine I and received the possession of the village of Goritsy ; the Great Hermitage was built on the site of his metropolitan mansion. His nephew Adam Olsufiev is a writer, translator, and state secretary of Catherine II . On the site of the Moscow estate of his descendants, Olsufevsky Lane was laid.
