Aram Tigranovich Ganalanyan ( February 12, 1909 , Akhaltsikhe - June 9, 1983 , Yerevan ) - Soviet Armenian literary critic , folklorist; full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (1977), Honored Scientist of the Armenian SSR (1967).

Biography

In 1931 he graduated from Yerevan State University . In 1931-1933 - High school teacher (Yerevan), in 1932-1939. - Junior researcher at the Institute of the History of Culture, Institute of History and Literature of the Armenian SSR, in 1941-1943. - Senior Researcher, Institute of Language and Literature, Armenian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. At the same time he lectured at Yerevan University (1937-1944) and at the Armenian Pedagogical Institute. H. Abovyan (1934-1951).

From 1943 until the end of his life he worked at the Institute of Literature. M. Abeghyan, Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR : Head of the Department of Folklore, Senior Researcher (since 1960). In 1960-1983 He was deputy editor of the Historical and Philological Journal of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR.

Scientific activity

In 1970 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philology. In 1965 he was elected a corresponding member, in 1977 - a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR.

The main works are devoted to the history and theory of folklore, the relationship of Armenian folklore and literature, folklore textology, the study of certain genres of Armenian traditions.
