Kaskov, Oleg Alexandrovich

Born on April 5, 1973 in the city of Kyshtym, Chelyabinsk Region, in a military family. His grandfather’s brother, Leonid Aleksandrovich Kaskov , was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for crossing the Oder River . Soon lost his father. In Kyshtym, he graduated from eight classes of secondary school No. 3 ^[1] , and in 1991 - Kyshtym Radiomechanical College ^[2] .

After graduating from the Chelyabinsk Higher Tank School in 1995, he was sent to the 34th Motorized Rifle Division , Ural Military District . From August 1995 to August 1998 he held the following positions: commander of a tank platoon; commander of a tank company of the 341st tank regiment (the city of Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Sverdlovsk region) ^[2] .

In the period from December 1995 to May 1996, as part of the 276th motorized rifle regiment, the 34th motorized rifle division participated in hostilities in the territory of the Chechen Republic . For five months of combat work, he repeatedly participated in military operations against illegal groups. Destroyed about 20 machine gun points, mortar positions and spotters fire ^[2] .

The commander of the tank platoon of the 276th motorized rifle regiment, senior lieutenant O.A. Kaskov, distinguished himself on April 4, 1996. On this day, a motorized rifle column with tank guards under the command of Lieutenant Kaskov advanced towards the city of Vedeno and was ambushed . The main tank with a trawl and the Kaskov tank were shot down from a ATGM . The tank commander was shell-shocked, gunner D. Grankin and driver A. Babin were seriously injured. The senior lieutenant pulled the wounded out of the tank and gave them first aid, then eliminated the fire in the fighting compartment of the tank. After that, taking the place of a gunner, he hit a firing point with a direct hit, from where the most intense fire was fired at the convoy. After the destruction of several more targets, the gun jammed. Together with the mechanic, he eliminated the malfunction and, until the last shell, covered the column’s exit from the danger zone of the shelling ^[2] .

By a decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated June 14, 1997 “for courage and heroism shown during the performance of a combat mission,” senior lieutenant Kaskov Oleg Alexandrovich was awarded the title Hero of Russia with the Golden Star medal ^[2] .

The tank officer continued his service in the same division . In 1998-2000 - student of the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation ^[2] . Participant of the Parade on Red Square on May 9, 1999 ^[1] .

After graduating from the academy, he continued to serve as battalion commander, deputy commander of the 341st tank regiment . In January 2003, Major Kaskov was prematurely awarded the military rank of " lieutenant colonel " ^[2] .

In April of the same year, a quarrel occurred in the presence of subordinates between two deputy commanders of the military unit , Lt. Col. Kaskov and Major Zhurba. In response to insults and obscene remarks addressed to him, Lt. Col. Kaskov, defending his honor, twice punched the offender in the face. After a quarrel, the major spent about a month in the hospital with a broken nose, head bruises and a concussion. On November 20, 2003, the Yekaterinburg garrison military court convicted the Hero of Russia, Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Kaskov. The military prosecutor’s office charged Colonel Kaskov under Part 3 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Excess of official authority”), which provides for punishment of up to 10 years in prison. However, the court re-qualified the prosecution and applied the softer Article 335 of the Criminal Code (“Unregistered Relations”). As a result, a verdict was passed: during the year, Lieutenant Colonel Kaskov could not be represented in a higher position , and this year was not taken into account when receiving the next military rank ^[2] .

In 2004-2006, he was the chief of staff , the head of the motorized rifle department of the 5406th armament and equipment storage base (5406 BHVT) ( Chebarkul city). In 2006-2007, he was chief of staff of the 276th motorized rifle regiment of the 34th motorized rifle division (city of Yekaterinburg ) ^[2] .

Since February 2007, he was appointed senior lecturer at the faculty of military training ( FVO ) of the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin . In August 2009, O. A. Kaskov was awarded the military rank of colonel ^[2] .

As of 2012, he works as the head of the military department of special training of the Federal Military District of Ural Federal University . Lives in the city of Yekaterinburg ^[2] .
