Monastery History
The first wooden Pokrovskaya church on the site of the future monastery was built at the expense of Korma parishioners in 1760. In 1869, a wooden bell tower was built near the church. At the beginning of the 20th century, the former church was dilapidated.
On September 26, 1907, Bishop Mitrofan consecrated the church in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin in the village of Korma.
In 1926 it was closed.
In the 30s, a granary was arranged in the temple.
In 1941, the temple was turned into a stable.
In 1990, Hieromonk Stefan (Nescheret) , now Bishop of Gomel and Zhlobinsky, became the rector of the church.
In 1991, the rector of the church, hieromonk Stefan (Nescheret), brought to a secret near the altar of the Intercession Church the newly-found relics of Archpriest John Ioannovich Gashkevich , priest of the St. Nicholas Church of the village of Ogorodnya-Gomelskaya ; in 1997, the relics were placed in the Holy Protection Church, and Archpriest John Gashkevich was counted among the locally revered saints of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
In 1995, the building of the baptismal church was built in honor of the Presentation of the Lord.
On May 31, 1998, the canonization of St. John of Kormyansky took place, led by Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus.
On August 8, 2000, a small women's community at the Church of the Intercession was converted into the St. John-Kormyansky Nunnery. A building for 15 people was built in the monastery, on the ground floor of which a Sretensky church house was built. The Icon of the Mother of God was quickly transferred to the monastery from the Holy Vvedensky Church in the village of Dubrovka, Dobrush District (written on Mount Athos in 1901).
