The Gospel of Godeskalka is an illuminated manuscript created between 781 and 783 years in the royal palace in Aachen , the earliest work of the so-called “ ”.

The book is named after Godeskalka, a monk who rewrote the Gospel. The manuscript customers were Charlemagne and his wife, Hildegard . Currently, the manuscript is stored in the National Library in Paris , inventory number Ms. nouv. acq. lat. 1203.

The Gospel contains six full-page miniatures (images of four evangelists , "Christ on the throne", "Fountain of life"), initials and manuscript fields are decorated with ornaments. The text is made in gold and silver ink on purple- colored parchment .
