Participation in the First Chechen War
Alexander Alekseev volunteered to be a senior group of employees of the republican FSB who went on a business trip to Chechnya [2] .
Since February 1996, the group was housed in the hostel of the FSB in Grozny . When Alekseyev’s business trip was nearing its end, at dawn on August 6, 1996, a large group of Chechen separatists entered Grozny, which captured the city’s most important highways and strongholds as part of Operation Jihad [2] .
The FSB hostel, which housed 90 employees, weapons and important documents, was attacked by large militant forces. The enemy invited those inside to surrender, go to their own with weapons or go to their side for money, but they refused. Alekseev as the senior in rank took command and organized the defense of the building. For two days, together with the fighters of the Vympel group, under the leadership of Major Sergei Romashin, the attacks of the militants fought back. A. I. Alekseev received two injuries, but after providing medical care he returned to duty [2] .
On the night of August 8–9, 1996, reconnaissance of possible ways to break through to his own, Alekseev was killed by a sniper shot. Subsequently, part of the defenders managed to break through to the main forces of the federal troops [2] .
