Biography
He was born in the family of General-General Aleksey Grigorievich Zherebtsov [2] and his wife Maria Mikhailovna, nee Naryshkina. He began his service in artillery as a fourier in 1769. Soon he was promoted to sergeant, but after 4 years transferred at the request of the Life Guards, the Semenovsky regiment was again a fourier, where he received rank after rank.
June 30, 1788 war broke out with Sweden . However, due to the ongoing war with Turkey in the south , troops near St. Petersburg were not enough - so in each of the guard regiments there was only one battalion. An urgent recruitment was announced, but against the 30,000th enemy army, under the personal leadership of the king, only about 14,000 soldiers were gathered. Stallions, including 26 chief officers and 837 lower ranks of the battalion of the Semenovsky regiment, formed in just two days, went by post to meet the enemy in Finland. However, connected by the siege of the Russian fortresses of Neyshlot and Friedrichsgama , the Swedes could not develop the offensive. Therefore, the guard, having not met the enemy, stood camp at Knut and Vyborg , and on September 26 the Semenovsky battalion returned back to Petersburg. Three years later, he resigned as a foreman, reckoned with the heraldry .
In 1798-1811 he was the leader of the nobility of the Yamburg district of the St. Petersburg province. In 1798 it was renamed State Counselors, and from 1800 acting State Counselor. In 1811, during the illness of the leader of the nobility of the St. Petersburg province, Alexander Sergeevich Stroganov replaced him. After the death of Stroganov was approved in this position. In 1810 and 1812-1815 he also corrected the position of the St. Petersburg conscientious judge .
In connection with the outbreak of World War II, together with his nephew, the real chamberlain Alexander Alexandrovich Zherebtsov , he inspired the provincial nobility to begin the formation of the people's militia . On July 17 ( July 29 ), 1812, the provincial noble assembly , under his leadership, decided to begin the recruitment and training of warriors of the Zemstvo army, and to elect Mikhail Illarionovich Kutuzov as its chief [3] . The very leader of the nobility, Stallions, became the hundredth chief and took up the formation of a militia in the cities of Luga , Gdov and Yamburg .
He was promoted to Privy Councilor on July 4, 1817 and appointed to the Senate . He died two years later, was buried at the Lazarevsky cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. His widow Anna Alekseevna (1758-1825, nee Eropkina) rests near him [4] .
