Biography
Maffio Venier was born on June 6, 1550 in Venice in the famous Venetian genus Venier. He was the son and nephew of Venetian Doge Lorenzo Venier and Domenico Venier.
On May 11, 1583, Pope Gregory XIII appointed Maffio Venier to be Archbishop of Corfu. On July 10, 1583, Mafio Venier was ordained as a bishop by Cardinal Innico d'Avalos d'Aragon . Maffio Venier was never to Corfu. Died suddenly in 1586 on his way from Rome to Florence .

Maffio Venier was the author of numerous erotic poems in the Venetian dialect . He was in a poetic confrontation with the Venetian courtesan Veronica Franco , whose work ridiculed in his satirical works.
