Fuzein ( fr. Fusain ; lat. Evonymus ) - charcoal euonymus , which came into use, especially among the French , as a material for drawing , namely in the form of sticks that replace pencils .
Such sticks are made by burning pieces of euonymus wood enclosed in metal tubes. Fusen pencils are very soft and brittle; what they have painted is very easily erased, leaving no trace behind, and even the slightest breath can weaken the power of the painted.
But the fusen gives the features of a thick, black, velvety tone, is extremely obedient to shading and is convenient for corrections and alterations of the artist's work. Therefore, it is very good when you need to install on the canvas a drawing of the picture you are starting or make a sketchy sketch of the composition on paper; but it is used with great success for the execution of completely finished drawings, and - as in previous cases - so that it is durable and does not wear out, they spray it with a fixative using a spray gun .
