Biography

Dmitry Klimenko was born on August 22, 1969 in the city of Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, Ukrainian SSR . He graduated from high school. He graduated from the Odessa Higher Artillery Command School . He served in the artillery units of the army and navy. In 1994, he was the first in the Navy to conduct coastal artillery fire from a self-propelled artillery mount located on the deck of a moving landing ship with a 100% hit. He took part in the first Chechen war. By October 1999, Major Dmitry Klimenko commanded a battery of self-propelled artillery mounts of the 61st Separate Northern Fleet Marine Brigade. He distinguished himself during the second Chechen war [2] .

At the end of October 1999, during the offensive in the vicinity of the village of Novogroznenskoye, Klimenko was in the infantry battle formations together with the battery control group. When large separatist forces attacked the infantry under cover of dense thickets, Klimenko personally arrived at the attacked area and, deploying a radio station, proceeded to adjust artillery fire on the enemy. When the separatists approached his position at a distance of 70 meters, Klimenko continued to provide data to his battery, despite the fact that he was in the zone of expansion of the fragments of their shells. Having lost several dozen people from artillery fire, the gang was forced to retreat. During her pursuit, she was almost completely destroyed [2] .

By decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated February 21, 2000 for “courage and heroism shown during the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus region” Major Dmitry Klimenko was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Russian Federation . Then he was awarded the rank of lieutenant colonel [2] .

He continued his service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In 2007 he commanded an artillery brigade, in 2008 - was the chief of staff of the military unit of the Moscow military district [2] .

Also awarded the medal "For Courage" and a number of other medals [2] .
