Krizhevitsky diocese

Križević diocese ( Latin: Eparchia Crisiensis , Croatian Križevačka eparhija ) is a diocese of the Croatian Greek Catholic Church with its center in Krizhevtsy .

Territory

The Krizevits diocese includes Greek Catholics living in Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The department of the diocese, from which it takes its name, is located in the city of Krizhevtsy, where the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is located . Since 1966, Bishop Krizhevitsky has been living in Zagreb , where the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary, founded in 1681, as well as the co- cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius are located .

History

The Apostolic Vicariate for the Catholics of the Byzantine rite in the Kingdom of Croatia was founded by Pope Paul V with his decree "Divinae Maiestatis arbitrio" of November 21, 1611 . The Vicariate's courtyard was in the March monastery.

On June 22, 1777, Pope Pius VI, with the Bull "Charitas illa", raised the Vicariate to the rank of diocese, the center of which was established by the city of Krizhevtsy. Bishop Krizhevitsky was first subordinated to the Esztergom Roman Catholic Metropolitan, and from December 11, 1852, the Krizhevitsky Diocese belongs to the Zagreb Metropolis.

After the collapse of socialist Yugoslavia and the emergence of new independent states on its territory , the Apostolic Exarchate in Macedonia, which is considered a separate Macedonian Greek Catholic Church , and in 2003, the Apostolic Exarchate in Serbia and Montenegro , which together with the Krizhevitsky Diocese , were allocated from the territory of the Krizevitsky diocese. refers to the Croatian Greek Catholic Church.

Current status

According to the Vatican Statistical Yearbook Annuario Pontificio for 2013, the Krizhevitsky diocese has 21.3 thousand believers, 46 parishes, 42 priests, 42 nuns [1] . Since 2009, the diocese has been managed by Bishop Nikola Kekic .
