Ulyanovsk is an important junction of the Kuibyshev railway , has one main and 3 secondary stations. There are two airports near the city - Ulyanovsk-Central (ULK) and Ulyanovsk-Vostochny International Airport (ULY) . On the right bank of the Volga in the Zheleznodorozhny district is the Ulyanovsk River Port . Two banks of the Volga are interconnected by two bridges. Federal highways pass through Ulyanovsk:

Road Transport
The length of roads of federal and regional significance is 4904.5 km, of which federal roads - 431.7 km, regional - 4472.8 km. The length of roads with asphalt concrete pavement is 4416.3 km.
The construction of a new bridge over the Volga in Ulyanovsk is completed. The first phase of the bridge was opened on November 24, 2009. The new bridge crossing has become part of the Volzhsky Transit project - an alternative to the highway connecting the European part of Russia with the Urals, Siberia and the Far East, which will relieve the existing federal roads.
The southern part of the region is crossed by a section of the federal highway M5 Ural .
Air Transport
The region is crossed by international airlines connecting the Volga region with Europe , Central Asia , the Middle East and China . Ulyanovsk is the only city in the Volga Federal District , on the territory of which there are two class A airports: Ulyanovsk-Central and Ulyanovsk-Vostochny International Airport, equipped with modern radio-electronic navigation equipment that allows receiving all types of aircraft without take-off weight restrictions , including An-124 Ruslan and Boeing 747. In addition, the Ulyanovsk-Vostochny International Airport has a unique runway with a length of 5100 m and a width of 105 m, capable of receiving space shuttles.
The largest airlines carrying passengers and goods in the Ulyanovsk Region are Volga-Dnepr Airlines CJSC and Polet Airlines.
Rail Transport
Rail transportation in the region is carried out by the Volga-Kama Region of the Kuibyshev Railway - a branch of Russian Railways.
Water Transport
The Ulyanovsk river port is located on both banks of the Volga, while on the right bank there is a single crane on the Volga with a lifting capacity of 100 tons. Activities in the river port are carried out by Ulyanovsk River Port OJSC, which has licenses for the transport of goods and passengers by inland water transport, loading and unloading activities.
A shipbuilding plant is located in the village of Kriushi and the shipping company LLC PEF Volgaremflot operates, which is engaged in cargo transportation.
Public Transport
