Biography

Vladimir Ganuschenko was born on May 2, 1922 in the village of Stepanovka (now the Velikobagachansky district of the Poltava region of Ukraine ). He graduated from junior high school. Since 1938, he lived in Simferopol , graduated from a factory apprenticeship school there, worked in a railway depot. In January 1943, Ganushchenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since May of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By July 1944, Senior Sergeant Vladimir Ganuschenko commanded the guns of the 306th Separate Anti-Tank Fighter Division of the 247th Rifle Division of the 69th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the crossing of the Vistula [1] .

On July 29, 1944, during the crossing across the Vistula in the area of ​​the Polish city of Pulawy , despite massive enemy fire, Ganuschenko, with his calculation, placed the gun on an open firing position and, conducting direct fire, ensured the successful capture of the bridgehead on the western bank of the river. On the night of August 2–3, 1944, Ganuschenko took an active part in repelling 5 enemy counterattacks, knocking out the Ferdinand self-propelled guns, destroyed a 75-mm gun, 5 firing points and 20 soldiers and officers. When Ganushchenko ran out of shells, he repelled German attacks with machine gun fire. In the battle he was seriously wounded, from whom he died on August 3. He was buried near the village of Govtsenok of the Lublin Voivodeship [1] .

Rewards

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 21, 1945, for the "courage and heroism shown when crossing the Vistula and holding the bridgehead on its western shore," senior sergeant Vladimir Ganushchenko was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a number of medals [1] .
