History
The predecessor of the Scientific Research Institute PMM TSU was the Scientific Research Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the TSU, which existed from 1932 to 1941.
The Scientific Research Institute PMM TSU was established in 1968 by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR on the basis of a special department of the Siberian Physico-Technical Institute (SFTI), which from the beginning of the 1960s was headed by A. D. Kolmakov , who became the first director of the Scientific Research Institute PMM TSU. By 1968, a team of scientists working in the field of applied mathematics and mechanics had formed at TSU, numbering about 80 people from among the full-time employees of the special department of SFTI and some departments of the mechanics, mathematics and physics and technology departments of TSU, including 5 doctors and over 30 candidates of science .
When creating in scientific research institute PMM TSU the scientific schools which existed in TSU joined
- ballistics (S. A. Betekhtin, M. S. Gorokhov )
- combustion theory ( V.N. Vilyunov )
- theory of elasticity (P. S. Solomin)
- applied aerodynamics ( V. A. Shvab )
- Astronomy (N. N. Goryachev)
A mathematical department was also created on the basis of the school on the theory of functions ( P. P. Kufarev ).
For various reasons, MS Gorokhov left Tomsk in 1968 (he went to work at the Scientific Research Institute of Chemicals and moved to Kazan ), P. S. Solomin (on the recommendation of doctors, moved to Kiev ).
On October 19, 2001, a memorial plaque to A. D. Kolmakov, the author of the memorial plaque by sculptor Leonid Mayorov, was opened on the facade of the Scientific Research Institute PMM TSU .
Initial structure
It was organized 12 laboratories in 5 departments
- Gas Dynamics and Explosion Physics (Head - Professor V.N. Vilyunov)
- Strength of materials and structures (Head - Ph.D., Z.I. Kasimov)
- Physics and mechanics of high-speed processes
- Dynamics of deformable systems
- Applied Mathematics (Head. - Associate Professor E. D. Tomilov)
- Strength of materials and structures (Head - Ph.D., Z.I. Kasimov)
From July 1, 1968, the independent research institute PMM TSU began to work. As of January 1, 1969, 187 full-time employees (80 of them scientific) and 48 part-time workers worked at the Institute. 8 full-time employees had academic degrees. The machine shop consisted of 12 machine workers.
Initially, the SRI PMM TSU was located in the building of the special laboratory of the SFTI, the premises of the departments of the Faculty of Physics and Technology (FFT) of the TSU, the premises on the territory of the ionospheric station. In 1973, the construction of the main building of the Scientific-Research Institute was completed. In 1976, the building of the Computing Center was completed, in which BESM-6 was placed (commissioned in 1977).
The number of employees of the Scientific-Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics of TSU grew and by 1975 reached 730 people, almost a quarter of them had degrees.
Institute Management
In 1988–2006 the Institute was headed by I. B. Bogoryad , in 2006–2007 E. A. Kozlov, since 2007 the Institute has been headed by A. A. Glazunov .
Since 2006 - a separate structural unit of the TSU. In 2008, the staff consists of 173 people, including 102 scientific employees (15 doctors and 43 candidates of sciences).

Scientific achievements
The staff of SRI PMM participated in such international projects as Soyuz-Apollon , in the Russian-French project Soyuz-ST. [one]
High-precision numerical model of the movement of large sets of objects of artificial origin in near-Earth space, the head of Tatiana V. Bordovitsyna, according to the results of the competitive program of the international jury was awarded a gold medal [2]
The project “Technology for producing submicron and nanoscale powders for functional and structural materials”, head Yuriy A. Biryukov, was awarded a diploma at the exhibition “Russian Innovative Developments and Technologies in Science, Technology, Education” in Finland [3] .
The project of scientists of Tomsk State University “Software and hardware complex of non-destructive testing of modules of electronic equipment” received a golden statuette of “Saint George” of the XIV international forum “High technologies of the 21st century” in Moscow. [four]
Current State
The institute has equipment to conduct fundamental and applied research in various areas of mechanics - physico-chemical gas dynamics, combustion, gas dynamics of multiphase media, nanomechanics and powder technologies, mechanics and physics of fast processes, the theory of elasticity, strength and destruction, aircraft dynamics, celestial mechanics and astrometry, ballistics. On the basis of the SRI PMM, the Basic Design Center was opened - a unit of the TSU, which will be engaged in the creation of mathematical models needed in the design of high-tech devices. [6]
Interesting Facts
On July 2, 1976, the People's Artist of the USSR D. M. Gnatyuk [7] visited the Institute. The Institute was a People's Artist of the USSR I. Gorbachev .
In 1971, a graduate of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the TSU, Mikhail Slobodskoy , later became the Rector of the TSAU (2005—2012) came to work at the Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
