The theatrical activity of Mikhail G. Schepenko began in 1974, when he organized a student theater group. This team has come a long way from studio to professional theater. He created more than 60 performances, each of which has stylistic features that allow us to talk about the phenomenon of the Shchepenko Theater.
Phenomenon of the Shchepenko Theater
In his directorial career, Mikhail Grigoryevich follows the traditions of the Russian realistic theater and develops the principles of the Vakhtangov school. Experimental in form, his performances are distinguished by an in-depth psychologism. Shchepenko is distinguished from all other theaters by the principle position of a person and a director, consisting in the fact that the troupe is his large family.
Mikhail Grigoryevich is of the opinion that a person should be a true Christian. And although he positions his theater as secular, he is Orthodox in spirit. [2] The path to that person, who is now Mikhail Shchepenko, went through various worldview changes. He was both an atheist and a follower of Eastern creeds. [3] He identifies the theater with the weapon with which you can fight for your ideals. People's Artist Yuri Kayurov about Mikhail Grigoryevich:
When I look at your theater, I see how Misha Shchepenko, like an icebreaker, paves the way for his comrades-in-arms among the hummocks, I determine how your theater stands out among other theater groups. I realized the secret of his difference. Even from the times on Chekhov Street: it differs in its special direction of surprisingly reverent and sincere insight into the essence of both dramaturgy and the human character, and in the way of identifying thoughts, feelings, feelings of characters. He staged a play about a man. Yes. And it seems to me the most important thing - about human kindness .
