Leonid Medvedko (born December 25, 1928 , Uvarovichi , Gomel District ) - renowned orientalist, leading researcher at the Institute of Military History of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences [1] , doctor of historical sciences (1984), professor [2] . The author of scientific papers and textbooks in the field of history and the current state of several countries of the African continent [3] , a member of the Writers' Union of Russia.

Biography
He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies , the Turkish branch.
In 1952, he left [4] with his family for the first business trip to Turkey and worked as an interpreter at the Soviet embassy until 1958.
The referent country specialist in primary education, the translator of Nazim Hikmet [4] , who had worked in Turkey for several years, studied Arabic, was a correspondent for TASS and Pravda in the Middle East. In 1963, Leonid Medvedko and Izvestia correspondent Konstantin Vishnevetsky became the first Soviet people to cross the threshold of King Hussein’s palace and meet him in person [5] . In the 80s he stood at the origins of the creation of the analytical service of the GRU General Staff [6] . After retiring, he returned to both scientific and creative work [1] .
Medvedko is the author of more than 120 scientific papers [7] , including such books as “The Winds of Change in the Persian Gulf”, “To the East and to the West from Suez”, “This near seething East”, “In the Name of Allah”, "Turkey and Kurdistan". Peru Medvedko owns more than a dozen books and numerous publications on the problems of the Middle East, oil and Islam [1] . According to the Arabist Andrei Smirnov , the book “The East is a close affair. Jerusalem - holy "became" a mini-encyclopedia on a 50-year period in the history of relations between Russia and the Middle East " [6] . Medvedko is the author of the monograph “Russia, the West, Islam:“ the clash of civilizations ”?”, In which the concept of Russia's systemic national security was based on the civilizational results of the world wars of the 20th century and analysis of the phenomenon of international terrorism. The idea of this concept was developed in the integrated doctrine of national security, considered and adopted at a joint meeting of the Security Council and the State Council of the Russian Federation in November 2003. As a scientist, he contributed to the system of higher education in Russia: a number of his books are used as textbooks in higher educational institutions of Russia — for example, at MGIMO, ISAA at Moscow State University, VIIA. Several generations of Soviet and Russian diplomats, journalists, and Arabists grew up in his work. As a supervisor, Medvedko prepared more than a dozen doctors and candidates of science from Russia, CIS countries, Egypt, Libya, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates [2] .
Medvedko is the Vice-President of the Aitmatov International Foundation (Issyk-Kul Forum) [1] . In 2009, Medvedko was a member of the organizing committee of the International Congress-Forum "Development Prospects for the CIS and the creation of a modern Euro-Asian Union of States" (Moscow. 2009) [8]
