Crossing the three roads leading to Carlisle , Glasgow and Sterling
West Port ( Eng. West Port ) - a street in the Edinburgh Old Town ( Scotland ). The street is located just south of Edinburgh Castle and stretches from Main Port (the junction of Brad Street, Loriston Street, East Fountain Bridge and High Riggs) to the southwest corner of Grassmarket .
The name West Port comes from the city gates that were here earlier, the only ones in the western direction. The gates themselves were demolished in 1786.
