Biography
In 1880, he joined the expedition of the German African Society, which founded the Mpala station on the western shore of Lake Tanganyika and then headed south-west to the upper Lualaba . After an unsuccessful attempt to pass to the south through the copper-rich region of Katanga , Reinhard, who remained the sole representative of the expedition, returned to Lake Tanganyika with great difficulty, losing his collections on the way. From here, he went through Tabora to Zanzibar and returned to Europe after a 5½-year journey. Reichard published a report on his travels in “Mitteilungen der Africanischen Gesellschaft in Deutschland”; He also wrote: “Emin Pascha, ein Vorkämpfer der Kultur im Innern Afrikas” (Leipzig, 1891), “Deutsch-Ostafrika, das Land und seine Bewohner” (Leipzig, 1892) and Stanley's biography (Berlin, 1896).
