Youth and the beginning of naval service
Born on December 18 (31), 1912 in Riga . By nationality - Russian . He graduated from 7 classes and the school of FZU in Kharkov . He worked as a mechanic at the Hammer and Sickle factory in Kharkov .
In the Navy since October 1931. In June 1936 he graduated from the Naval College named after M.V. Frunze . Since June 1936, he served in the Baltic Fleet as the navigator of the 3rd division of the torpedo boat brigade.
In April 1937 - March 1938 he participated in hostilities in Spain as a boat commander on the side of the republican fleet, as well as in the headquarters of the naval adviser. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
After returning from Spain in April 1938, he commanded a detachment of a brigade of torpedo boats in the Baltic Fleet. In July 1938 he was repressed and dismissed from the fleet. Rehabilitated in January 1939, in May reinstated in the personnel of the Navy. Since June 1939 - commander of the 3rd detachment of the 3rd division of the brigade of torpedo boats of the Baltic Fleet.
Member of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 since December 1939 as a commander of a torpedo boat detachment of the Liepaja Naval Base .
World War II
Member of the Great Patriotic War: in June - September 1941 - the commander of the torpedo boat detachment of the Liepaja Naval Base, in September - December 1941 - the commander of the 2nd detachment of the 4th division, in December 1941 - November 1942 - the commander of 2- division, in November 1942 - April 1943 - commander of the 4th division, from April 1943 - commander of the 1st (from February 1944 - 1st guard) division of the brigade of torpedo boats of the Baltic Fleet (BTKA KBF).
On July 26, 1941, boats entered into an unequal battle with a caravan of enemy ships of 26 pennants and sank 2 destroyers, a transport and patrol ship.
Five days later, 4 boats launched an attack against 5 enemy destroyers, 2 of them were sunk, one damaged. On September 13, 1941, a daring attack launched 3 enemy vehicles with a total displacement of 20,000 tons, with at least 1,500 soldiers. Katerniki disrupted the landing by the Nazis planned on the island of Ezel ( Saaremaa ).
On September 27, 1941, 4 boats attacked a large group of enemy ships (cruiser, leader, 5 destroyers), marching under cover of 5 aircraft, during the day. Under the hurricane fire of naval artillery, the enemy boats sank the cruiser, 2 destroyers and undermined the leader. A small group of torpedo boats S. A. Osipov in a short time caused great damage to the enemy: shot down 2 aircraft, sank 5 destroyers, 4 vehicles and 2 torpedo boats. In addition, 2 destroyers and one enemy patrol ship were blown up and damaged on the mines exhibited by the boats.
For courage and heroism shown in battles, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 3, 1942, Captain-Lieutenant Osipov Sergey Alexandrovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 527).
After receiving the highest award of the Motherland, he continued to actively participate in battles until the Victory. Boats under the command of S. A. Osipov, in the face of strong opposition from the enemy, sank 27 ships and vessels of the enemy in 1941-1943, conducted 54 active mine operations. In 1944, the division under his command successfully conducted 16 minefields and 7 torpedo attacks on enemy communications in the Narva and Vyborg bays, as a result of which 14 enemy ships and ships were sunk, for which S. A. Osipov was awarded the Order of Ushakov 2nd degrees (No. 3). At the same time, S. A. Osipov personally participated in 4 attacks. He led the torpedo boat division in a battle with German destroyers near the island of Nerva on June 20, 1944, when the German destroyer T-31 was sunk.
With the beginning of the offensive of our troops on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, the squadron of the division participated in all landing operations of 1944-1945 on the mainland and islands of the Moondzun archipelago. On April 26, 1945, S. A. Osipov personally oversaw the landing of torpedo boats from an amphibious assault on the Frisch-Nehrung spit to eliminate the remnants of the defeated Zemland enemy group . When accepting the surrender of the German garrison in the city of Liepaja on May 9, 1945, S. A. Osipov entered this naval base on a lead boat.
In 1944, the commander of the 1st Guards Torpedo Boat Division of the KBF Guards 3rd-Class Captain S. A. Osipov was introduced to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union twice, but this award did not take place. In June 1945 he was again presented to the rank of Hero twice and again it was not assigned to him [1] .
Post-War Service
After the war, he continued to serve in the Navy and commanded the division until December 1946, when he departed for studies.
In 1949 he graduated from the K.E. Voroshilov Naval Academy. Since December 1949 - commander of the Pechenga Naval Base of the Northern Fleet . Since October 1951 - commander of the 185th brigade of torpedo boats of the Northern Fleet, since December 1953 - commander of the 41st division of torpedo boats of the Black Sea Fleet . May 31, 1954 received the title of Rear Admiral . Since December 1955 - at the disposal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy of the USSR.
Since February 1956 - head of the special faculty of the Naval Academy.
Since December 1958, Rear Admiral S. A. Osipov has been in reserve due to illness.
He lived in Leningrad. The author of memoirs. He died on July 5, 1976. He was buried at the Bolsheokhtinsky cemetery of Leningrad [2] .
