As of 2018, the league, despite its name, has a semi-professional status. All clubs receive from the federation payments in the amount of 50 thousand rials (about 100 thousand pounds sterling) per season. The champion receives 150 thousand rials, while the winner of the Sultan Qaboos Cup is rewarded with prizes in the amount of 250 thousand. Clubs receive additional funding at the expense of sponsors. Local footballers earn from 7,000 rials per season, while most of them combine playing football with other work. Each club can claim up to four foreign players who are fully professional players and receive at least 1000 rials per month. Salaries of legionaries can reach 30 thousand rials per season, and bonuses for signing a contract 20 thousand [1] .
Although fans are not charged for passage to the stadium, attendance at championship matches is extremely low. This is due to the fact that many viewers prefer to watch games in air-conditioned rooms on TV, rather than the stadium. Home matches of teams from Muscat are often held at the national stadium " Sultan Qaboos ", which seats up to 34 thousand spectators, but at the same time there are only a few hundred people. About 3,000 viewers enter the regional derby.
