Name Etymology
The name of the genus comes from the Greek. λύσις , lizis - “separation, dissolution”, and Greek. νώτος , notos - “back, back”, which, apparently, indicates a way to open the seed capsules.
Botanical Description
Epiphytic herbs or shrubs. The stems are branching, semi-gingival, glabrous. Leaves are opposite or collected in whorls of three, sometimes alternating, isophyllic or uneven in size, grassy or leathery, petioles short, lanceolate or elliptic laminae, pointed, angularly serrate on the edge. Inflorescences are axillary, on peduncles, with subtle bracts, little or multi-flowered. Sepals are actinomorphic , fused in the basal part, lanceolate. The corolla of the flower is zygomorphic tubular-funnel-shaped, the tube is straight, swollen in the upper part, the limb is bilobate, the adaxial lip is 2-lobed, shorter than the abaxial lip; abaxial lip 3-lobed, lobes equal or central lobe larger, rounded at the apex, reddish-purple, white, yellow.
