Biography
Goran Tribuson graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb , where he defended his master's thesis in film science.
Started to be published in the early 1970s , he is a vivid representative of the so-called “first wave” of Croatian science fiction writers (collections of short stories “Conspiracy of cartographers” / Zavjera kartografa, “Prague Death” / Praška smrt, “Paradise for dogs” / Raj za pse, Eighth Eyepiece / Osmi okular). The early stories of the writer are imbued with mysticism, their action takes place in the Central European space. They are based on intertextuality , paradox and open endings.
In the early 1980s , Tribuson turned to exacting novel forms of various genre and style varieties. In more than 20 novels, the writer depicted different periods of life and development of Croatian society of the 20th century, often with a strong generational and autobiographical accent (“Slow Capitulation” / Polagana predaja, “The History of Pornography” / Povijest pornografije). Similar books include two books of autobiographical essays, The First Days (Rani dani, 1977) and Herbs and Weeds (Trava i korov, 1999).
The second cycle of Tribuson's literary heritage consists of a series of detective novels, united by a common main character, Nicola Banici, a former police inspector and private detective. Books were well received by professional critics and popular with a wide readership.
In the background of Goran Tribuson's novels, after an interest in pop culture and focus on an unsettled personal life, uncertainty and insecurity of the social environment looms. Unpretentious and influential in Zagreb circles, the writer is also a good connoisseur of lexicography , author and editor of vocabulary .
Goran Tribuson is a professor at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb . Since 2000, he has been an employee of the Literature Department of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts , and since June 2008, he has been a full (full) member of the Academy.
