Elpidifor Ivanovich Arkadyev (November 2, 1856 , Dmitrovsky district of Moscow province - December 12, 1917 , Saratov ) - bibliographer, journalist, publisher, writer. Biography

After graduating from high school, in 1875 he entered the Tver Cavalry School , after which in military service, a participant in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 . In the 1880s he was engaged in the sale of old books in the company "Moscow bookseller". From 1895 he lived in Syzran , took an active part in the All-Russian national census, from 1913 - in Saratov.

“He was educated in Moscow,” he recalled, “received a rather serious, but more non-formal education. He worked a lot on self-development, devoting himself first to general education, and then delving into political, economic and social sciences, to which I attach the main importance in human development. ”

E. I. Arkadyev was a member of the Society of Russian Dramatic Writers and Opera Composers, the Literary Fund , the Russian Theater Society, the Russian Bibliographic Society at Moscow University, the League of Education, the Saratov Gubernia Archival Commission, "Syzran society of the organization of public libraries and cheap tea", "Syzran circle of lovers of music and dramatic art."

During the big fire in 1906 in Syzran, the city library burned down with 30 thousand volumes. Arkadyev appealed to Russian newspapers for help. Over 7 thousand books were sent to his name in Syzran from all over the Russian Empire. Since 1998, this library has been named after E. I. Arkadiev.

Creativity

From his youth, EI Arkadyev was fond of various reference books on various issues. Arkadyev was interested in the theater, the result of this interest was the "Theater Dictionary" (1900) and several plays. The bibliophile dictionary (1890) brought him the greatest fame. "
