Story
The trial of Julien Sorel. The accused is given the final word, in which he does not ask for mercy, but denounces those present to want to punish him for the low origin of the person who has risen to the chosen society. The court retires to the meeting.
Some years ago. Father brings Julien to the service of Mr. de Renal. Relations arise between Madame de Renal and Julien. Sorel enters her room, where she spends the night.
Madame de Renal insists on the participation of Julien in the guard of honor, which causes talk in the city and among the military. Abbot Chelan is indignant at Julien's red uniform, changes into black clothes and leads to a meeting with the bishop. During the service, Julien realizes that the first role in the world is played not by the king, but by the bishop. These thoughts lead him to the seminary of Besançon . An anonymous letter addressed to Mr. de Renal, denouncing his spouse of treason, also contributes to this.
In Paris, Sorel enters the house of the Marquis de la Mole, whose secretary he becomes. On Julien draws attention to the daughter of Marquis Matilda. A complicated affair between young people flares up with lasagna on dates through the window, Matilda’s contempt in the light of day and passionate nights.
The confessor of Madame de Renal dictates her a letter for the Marquis in which she speaks of Julien as a careerist who goes to great lengths to achieve the goal. Outraged, Julien returns to Verrier, where during her service in the church she shoots Madame de Renal twice.
Sorel is arrested and refuses confession. Think again and return to the bosom of the church convince him Abbot Chelan and Madame de Renal, who remained alive and went to the amendment.
Madame de Renal dies three days after the execution of Julien, hugging her children.
