Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Life

It was founded on December 9, 1976 . The creation of the museum was preceded by a series of articles on the pages of republican publications on the need to preserve monuments of wooden architecture and folk material culture.

The basis of the museum’s exposition is the creation of exposition sectors in accordance with the conditional division of the territory of the Republic of Belarus into six historical and ethnographic regions: Central Belarus, the Dnieper, Poozerie, Ponemanie, East and West Polesie. Today the museum has 3 exposition sectors: “Central Belarus”, “Dnieper” and “Lakeland”. Each of them represents a fragment of a typical settlement of the region in the late XIX - early XX centuries. with characteristic buildings. A prerequisite for the location of the sectors is the reflection of the natural and geographical conditions of the region. At present, the exhibition will present more than 25 monuments of Belarusian folk wooden architecture of the late XVIII - early XX centuries. Among them are cult (churches, belfry, chapel), public (public barn, public school building), production (forge, mills) and complexes of peasant estates. The monuments restored traditional interiors. Small architectural forms give fencing to the exposition sectors: fences of various types, wells, ponds, etc., as well as green spaces.
