Biography
Born September 25, 1935 in the city of Essentuki, Stavropol Territory . In 1960 he graduated from the Higher Agricultural Institute named after V. Kolarov (Bulgaria). He worked as a researcher, manager of the department, chief agronomist of the Kagul experimental field, head of the agricultural department of the Kagul experimental station of the Moldavian Research Institute of Irrigated Agriculture and Vegetable Production (MNIIOZiO). Director of the farm "Semiletka" p. Zerneshty of the Moldavian SSR, head of the Main Directorate of Irrigated Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture of the MSSR, director of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute for Health and Safety, at the same time (since 1973), general director of the first in the USSR NGO Dnepr. Vice-president (1976-1977), simultaneously academic secretary of the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences, president (1977-1989) of the Academy of Sciences of the MSSR, at the same time (since 1985) director of the Institute of Ecological Genetics of the Moldavian SSR. Deputy Chairman (1989-1992) of the USSR State Committee for Science and Technology. From 1992 to 2009 - Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences , at the same time head of the Department of Genetics of the Moscow Agricultural Academy. K. A. Timiryazev and the Laboratory of Recombinogenesis of the All-Russian Research Institute of Agricultural biotechnology .
For the first time in world practice, he carried out a systematic analysis of the adaptive potential of cultivated plants and revealed the most important features and qualitatively new mechanisms of adaptive reactions in ontogenesis and phylogenesis, for the first time in the world he substantiated and formulated the basic principles of private plant genetics, the founder of ecological genetics of cultivated plants, created the first ecological genetic foundations of the adaptive system of plant breeding and adaptive crop production, strategies for adaptive intensification of agriculture.
For the first time in the world, he created the Institute of Ecological Genetics with a botanical garden, a modern phytotron, a morpho-quantum, the first schools of cytological and molecular genetic studies of model objects (Drosophila, tomato, corn, wheat, Arabidopsis and ornamental plants), with a complex of greenhouses and vegetation houses, with modern instruments and equipment, databases, including the Internet and an information-measuring complex for monitoring due to the shooting of plants from space, aerial photography and the study of plants in dynamics (bottom m and at night - 24 hours) with the help of many sensors and instruments developed for the first time at the institute.
The fundamental research of academician Alexander Aleksandrovich Zhuchenko in the field of private and ecological genetics of cultivated plants, systematics, recombinogenesis, biomonitoring, agroecology, breeding, variety testing, seed production, plant protection, as well as strategies for adaptive intensification of agriculture have received worldwide recognition. Scientists of Russia and foreign countries A.A. Zhuchenko is widely known as a prominent biologist who created a school on environmental genetics (61 doctoral and master's theses were defended under his guidance). 665 scientific works were published, including 25 monographs that were highly praised by scientists (see reviews of the works of A.A.
