Biography
Born in the city of Sovetsk, Kaliningrad region.
From an early age I tried myself in various sports.
In 1987, Natalia, who at that time bore the name of her husband - Vinnik and worked as a truck crane at a local pulp and paper mill, was spotted by sambo trainer Vladimir Yarmolyuk . Natalya with pleasure agreed to engage in sambo and trained with Yarmolyuk for three years.
In 1990, she received bronze in the team and individual events at the First All-Russian Universiade, and in 1991 at the All-Union Sambo Tournament, held in Moscow , she fulfilled the standard of a master of sports [4] .
Later, Natalia enters the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of the RSU named after Kant [5] and begins to train with Vladislav Fedotov [6] .
In 1999, Natalya leaves big sport and enters a coaching job at the School of Higher Sports Excellence in Kaliningrad [2] .
Murder
The body of Natalia Herzans was discovered by police in the Kaliningrad apartment of the athlete on August 12, 2002 (neighbors were worried about the smell of a rotting body coming from Natalya’s apartment). The body was tied hand and foot, on it there were traces of stab wounds, and on the head there was a trace of a blow; as experts later establish, the death of a sambo wrestler followed on August 5 [2] .
The killer is a certain Dmitry V., 23 years old, previously convicted, was detained the day after the discovery of the body of Herzans [7] .
As the investigation established, V. met his victim (who lived alone and had no children) on the day of the murder, was invited to her house and, seeing the sports awards and valuables of Natalya, unexpectedly hit Natalia in the head with a heavy object and tied them up and then stabbed several times. According to V., he had no intention to kill, [2] .

Memory
- Since 2005, the annual All-Russian Sambo Tournament in memory of Natalia Herzans has been held in Kaliningrad [8] .
- At the entrance to the Kaliningrad gymnasium “Russia”, a memorial plaque was erected in memory of N. Ya. Gertsans [6] .
